Events

Manage one-off and recurring events for your church — Sunday services, small groups, classes, and more. Events you mark as public surface on your portal calendar and an iCal feed that visitors can subscribe to from any calendar app.

Beta feature

Events are gated behind the events-basic feature flag. If you don't see the Events tab in your sidebar, contact us to enable it for your organization.

Creating an event

Open Events from the sidebar and click New event. Fill in the title, type, location, start, and end. If the event repeats, pick a cadence from the Repeats select.

Events are private by default. Toggle Make public in the form to surface the event on your church's public events page and iCal feed. Auditions can never be made public — they always stay private. Event type is just a label for organizing your calendar; it does not affect visibility on its own.

Recurring events

When you pick a recurrence (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom), Rhythmic creates a series and automatically generates instances about six months ahead. New instances are added each night so the calendar stays full as time moves forward.

Custom recurrence

Pick Custom... to open a recurrence builder. You can set the frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly), an interval (e.g. every two weeks), specific days of the week, and an end date.

Editing a recurring event

When you edit an event that's part of a series, you'll be asked which occurrences to change:

  • This event only — updates just the one occurrence. The rest of the series stays on the original schedule.
  • This and following — caps the original series at this point and starts a new series with the updated details going forward.
  • All events — applies the change to every future occurrence in the series. Occurrences you previously customized stay as they were.

Cancelling events

Cancel a single occurrence to keep the series running with one date removed — handy for skipping a holiday week. Cancel the whole series to stop generating future instances entirely.

Public visibility

Every event has a public toggle. Off (the default) means the event only shows in the admin app and to anyone you've invited as a participant. On means the event appears on your church's portal events page and iCal feed.

For recurring events, the toggle on the series sets the default for every instance. Editing a single occurrence lets you override that occurrence's public flag without affecting the rest of the series.

The portal events page

Visitors to your church portal see public events at your-subdomain/events. The page lists upcoming events grouped by day for the next ~90 days. Only events you've explicitly marked public appear here.

Subscribing from a calendar app

Anyone can subscribe to your church's public events feed from any app that supports iCal (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook). The URL is:

https://your-subdomain.rhythmic.church/api/events/your-subdomain.ics

Recurring events show up as a single recurring entry in the subscriber's calendar. Cancelled occurrences are skipped automatically, and rescheduled occurrences move to their new slot.

Tips

  • Once you create a recurring series, instances appear in the admin calendar within a minute or two — the first batch is generated immediately, and additional instances are extended nightly.
  • The portal events page and the iCal feed both stay 404 until you turn on the events-basic flag, so you can build out your schedule before going live.
  • Auditions are always private — the form will not let you make one public, and they never appear on the portal or in the iCal feed.
